Two Day Diabetes Update for Nurses

 Diabetic Foot and Wound Care Seminar for Nurses

This interactive and informative day is for division 1 nurses working in any practice setting, which will  help to increase their knowledge of diabetes and enhance their skills in managing complex foot wounds and ulcers in patients who have diabetes.

2010 Diabetes in School Seminars for Teachers

These seminars offer participants the opportunity to expand their knowledge and become more confident in supporting and facilitating the day to day school experience of children with type 1 diabetes in their care.  Morning session will include information about diabetes and diabetes management in school-age children; afternoon sessions will run as a practical workshop covering a variety of specialised topics in more detail (staying for the afternoon session is optional).

Due to popular demand for the Diabetes in School Seminars for Teachers, an additional seminar will be held on Tuesday 16 March 2010 from 8.45am to 3.30pm at Mayfield Education, 2-10 Camberwell Road, Hawthorn East, VIC 3123.  Bookings are essential.  Please call 9667 1728 to register.

 


Keep in Control (KIC) Diabetes Program for Fitness Trainers

This interactive program has been developed for the Fitness Industry and provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to offer safe and effective exercise programs for clients with diabetes or at risk of diabetes.  This program is offered in two parts, Part A and Part B.  For more information and to register click on Diabetes Program for Fitness Trainers (209KB). Become a Supermarket Tour Leader

We also coordinate supermarket tours for people with diabetes across Victoria. Tour leaders are dietitians supported and trained by DA-Vic.

If you are interested in conducting tours, we support you in the following ways:

  • Comprehensive leader's manual
  • Take bookings and confirm registrations
  • Provide participant show-bags
  • Promote tours in our member magazine and on our website

Diabetes for Aged Care Workers and Supported Care

This is an interactive half day workshop for personal carers and Division 2 nurses working in aged care.

Topics covered:

  • What is diabetes?
  • Signs, symptoms and diagnosis
  • Food choices for older people with diabetes in care
  • Principles of blood glucose monitoring
  • Managing high and low blood glucose levels
  • Complications of diabetes

Carbohydrate Counting Workshop for Health Professionals

This half day workshop  is designed to provide dietitians and diabetes educators with practical skills in estimating the quantity of carbohydrate in various foods and apply this information to their client education. Practical exercises will include calculating carbohydrate in cooked and raw foods using a variety of techniques including food models and the analysis of food labels.

Dates for 2010:  Friday 23 April, Thursday 17 June, Friday 10 September, Thursday 4 November
Times:                  9am - 1pm or 1pm - 5pm

OzDAFNE Support Day

This full day workshop is designed for health professionals involved in the direct care and support for patients with type 1 diabetes who have completed the DAFNE program. Find out more about OzDAFNE.
