Feltman^® is a diabetes teaching tool made by the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) and Diabetes Victoria.

It can be used to talk about preventing type 2 diabetes and how to live well with diabetes. Feltman^® is in the shape of the human body and can be used to show what happens in your body when you have diabetes. It is a felt mat that can be laid out flat or hung up.

VACCHO and Diabetes Victoria have developed Feltmum^®, a diabetes in pregnancy add-on kit for the Feltman^® resource.                                                                       

Each Feltmum^® kit includes:

• A felt baby, wig and uterine artery
• A set of 21 stick-on prompt cards
• A set of stick-on discs and keys showing glucose, insulin and 
• pregnancy hormones
• A 'key messages' booklet
• A USB stick loaded with an instructional video (also available on YouTube)

The Feltmum^® kit provides Aboriginal families with culturally appropriate, 
evidence based information about diabetes in pregnancy in a visual format 
which is easy to understand.

VACCHO and Diabetes Victoria have developed Feltman^® Eyes, an eye health add-on kit for the existing Feltman^® resource.

Each Feltman^® Eyes kit includes:

• Specially designed felt eyes to go with the existing Feltman^® kit
• New prompt cards to help talk about diabetes-related eye conditions
• An eye health key messages booklet

The Feltman^® Eyes kit can be used by the Aboriginal Health workforce to talk about the prevention and management of diabetes-related eye health conditions in the Aboriginal community.

The Feltman^® Eyes kit is available to purchase from Diabetes Victoria. If you would like to purchase the Feltman^® Eye kit, please email the the cultural diversity team.

These picture guides have been designed together with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) to help Aboriginal people understand diabetes related health messages. These messages are shown by pictures which are culturally appropriate.

Healthy eating can make you feel happier and healthier. It is about finding a balance and knowing which foods you should eat more of every day, and the foods that are best to eat sometimes. The healthy eating clip explores healthy eating messages, including:

• Different food groups
• Recommendations for each food group, including daily intake
• Portion sizes
• Healthy cooking methods
• Sample meal plans

Healthy eating is a ten minute clip, available in English, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese and Arabic. It is suitable for all adults and teenagers, including people with diabetes and those wanting to lose weight. To view all the Healthy eating clips, please visit our YouTube channel.

The Grapevine newsletter is for Aboriginal people and those with an interest in diabetes in the Aboriginal community. Grapevine includes:

• The Diabetes Story App was developed in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health organisations such as the Victorian Aboriginal community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), Diabetes Victoria, Diabetes Qld and Diabetes Australia.
  Diabetes story is an interactive self-management module especially created for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The 6 domains that have been adapted are: What is diabetes, Managing diabetes, Fighting diabetes, Diabetes in pregnancy, Personal stories and Where to get help.

• The Diabetes Story (DVD) was made by the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress. It is a moving picture story in three Central Australian Aboriginal languages (Pitjantjatjara, Warlpiri and Arrernte) and English.

The Diabetes Risk Assessment tool identifies people at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The Aboriginal Life! (Road to Good Health) is a type 2 diabetes prevention program for Aboriginal people and their families, aged 18 years and over, with a score of 12 or higher on the diabetes risk test.
