Most people with diabetes have long and successful working lives across interesting jobs. As we start back at work for another year it is an opportunity to:

  • Check that your work tasks continue to enable you to undertake your diabetes self-care tasks.
  • Check your workplace policy about working from home or the office.  Seek clarification with your manager about your personal health context as needed.
  • Be familiar with your workplace COVID plan, Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures and employee assistance programs.
  • Get started on your diabetes annual cycle of care by making appointments with those who support your physical and emotional health.

We have booklets about diabetes in the workplace or people with diabetes, their employer, and co-workers.

Information for employees and employers on diabetes in the workplace

These booklets offer information, hints and examples of how to balance your diabetes along with your rights and duties at work. You can read these booklets online, download and print them or call our Helpline on 1300 437 386 to have a hardcopy posted to you.

Information for employers on workplace rights and responsibilities and avoiding discrimination

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissions (VEOHRC) website has more information on discrimination and workplace laws, including:

The Fair Work Ombudsman and Fair Work Commission can also be contacted for advice about discrimination in the workplace.
