‘Supporting emerging leaders in diabetes’

Are you passionate about making a difference for your diabetes community?

If you're between 18-22 years old and living with type 1, this program may be for you! This program allows you to connect with other emerging leaders while honing your leadership skills. Through the program, there will be a strong focus on leadership training, strong social bonds, inclusion and diversity skills, focusing on the transition from pediatric to adult care, and much more!

*If you are above the 18–22-year-old age bracket and would like to get involved and volunteer, head to the volunteer form at the bottom of the page.

Here's what the program offers:

  • Unlock leadership opportunities and connect with other young adults who are also emerging leaders.
  • Receive mentorship and gain knowledge and skills from experienced leaders in various fields.
  • Connect and share your experiences with diabetes with like-minded peers who understand and support you.
  • Ensure that your voice is heard by gaining skills to effectively influence and shape conversations about diabetes specifically for young people.
  • Gain valuable skills and opportunities that can assist you in your future and career development with sessions on advocacy, entering the workforce, and effective leadership.

The 2023 Future Leaders program was held face-to-face in October. We kicked off with a 2-night, 3-day retreat where there was plenty of leadership and other activities, followed by 2 sessions over the following month which provided an opportunity to reconnect and gain further knowledge.

The program finished with a graduation dinner to celebrate your achievements of graduating from the program!

As this year's program concludes, we are actively exploring opportunities to continue in the future. However, we are currently facing uncertainties regarding funding for the upcoming year. For updates, please email flp@diabetesvic.org.au
