Frequently Asked Questions

Freestyle Libre 2 is the next generation of the Freestyle Libre sensor-based glucose monitoring technology for people living with diabetes. Freestyle Libre 2 consists of a small sensor which is applied to the back of the arm for up to 14 days. The sensor can be scanned with your smartphone if you have downloaded the Freestyle Libre Link app or with a reader. This will give you a reading of your glucose levels and show you trends.

The Freestyle Libre 2 system continuously measures glucose data every minute. When you scan the smartphone app or reader it will show your current glucose reading and a trend arrow to indicate if your glucose levels are trending up or down. A graph will show your 8-hour glucose history. Freestyle Libre 2 makes is possible to have customisable, real-time glucose alarms to alert you, without scanning, if your glucose level is high or low. It is optional to have these alarms. Freestyle Libre 2 can be used in conjunction with the LibreLinkUp app to share glucose readings and alarms with caregivers and loved ones. There is also the cloud-based application, LibreView, which can be used to share your glucose data and patterns with your healthcare professional. Then your caregivers and/or healthcare professionals can access your data remotely to help prepare for consults and telehealth appointments.

Freestyle Libre 2 is TGA registered for adults and children (aged 4 years and older) with insulin-requiring diabetes. Consult a healthcare professional to see if Freestyle Libre 2 is right for you and your diabetes management.

If you are not eligible for the subsidy, the Freestyle Libre 2 sensor is priced at $92.50 and is scanned with a smartphone (with the free Freestyle Libre Link app). Freestyle Libre 2 sensors can also be purchased via FreeStyleLibre.com.au while the free-to-download Freestyle Libre Link and LibreLinkUp apps can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play. For a limited time, there is also a Freestyle Libre 2 introductory offer for new users to receive 2 free sensors when signing up for a subscription starter pack. Learn more at: scantocheck.com.au
