"For every town, for every place in this country, we have an original name, and it's important to use them as a celebration and to recognise the history and the connection of First People to country" - Rachael McPhail.

The Traditional Place Names Guidelines outlines how Traditional Place Names can be respectfully included as adjuncts in the Diabetes Victoria, Life! and ACBRD addresses across both Melbourne and Campbellfield locations.

Diabetes Victoria has consulted with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and has received their endorsement regarding the correct use of the Traditional Place Names throughout our current resources.

Please know when using these names that you should do so with respect and an openness to learning and acknowledging the traditional lands.

Please note, name and language consultations were completed with:
Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation
Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation

If you have any queries, you can contact us on culturaldiversity@diabetesvic.org.au.

Guidelines when using Traditional Place Names

Traditional Place Names (i.e. narrm) should be used for correspondence that may be localised or originate from the relevant Country (e.g. Wurundjeri) and language (e.g. Woi-wurrung) in order to remain respectful of the different Traditional Countries, their community and Elders.

For correspondence that is provided to multiple regional/state or national audiences, only the traditional country (e.g. Wurundjeri) should be referred to and not the specific place name (e.g. narrm).
