Diabetes Camps Victoria ‘Big Day Out’

Eligibility
This is a dedicated event for families (including parents/carers and siblings) with children aged 5–11 years living with type 1 diabetes. At least one parent or carer is required to remain onsite for the duration of the event.
Children’s Program
Children living with type 1 diabetes and their siblings will participate in exciting, Melbourne Zoo-based activities.
During the day, children will:
- spend an exciting day exploring the Melbourne Zoo in groups, supervised by our volunteers
- be supported to manage their diabetes by our diabetes health professionals, including Diabetes Nurse Educators
- meet new friends – living with type 1, or connecting as siblings of children living with type 1
The Children’s Program has been fully funded by the National Diabetes Services Scheme.
Parent and Carer’s Program
Parents and carers will be taken care of onsite, spending the day ‘off’ enjoying a special Parent/Carer Event of your own. This will be held in an indoor event space at the Melbourne Zoo and will include:
- guest speakers
- information sessions
- socialising with other parents
- some supported relaxation
- catered lunch and snacks
