Join the Movement: Advocate for Access to Diabetes Technology

People sitting around a desk.

Diabetes Victoria is advocating for people with all types of diabetes to have equitable access to affordable diabetes technologies. Every day we hear from people with diabetes who tell us about the transformative impact of diabetes technologies and that access needs to be expanded.

We have joined leading diabetes organisations across the country to make a submission to the Federal Government to fund diabetes technology.

Read the submissions below.

Federal Budget Submission 1 recommends subsidising insulin pumps to increase to access to Automatic Insulin Delivery (AID) for people with type 1 diabetes. Only around 30% of Australians living with type 1 diabetes can access an insulin pump, despite international and national guidelines recommending AID as standard care.

Federal Budget Submission 2 recommends expanding the subsidy for Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) to people with type 2 diabetes and other forms of diabetes, with a focus on priority groups.  The evidence is clear that CGMs are life-changing for people living with diabetes, with improved health, reduced risk of diabetes complications, and they are a cost-effective investment for the health system.

“Modern tools like CGMs allow us to track our blood glucose levels in real time. This helps us spot dangerous highs and lows quickly, reducing guesswork and risk of complications.”

Joanne

“Technology reduces the mental burden of constant management, yet access is determined by affordability alone. No one should have to weigh their mental health against the cost of living.”

Alison

"No Australian should have to trade household stability for safe diabetes care."
