The facilitation skills training provided me with an invaluable opportunity to learn the art of effective facilitation. The two-day training was highly hands-on and experiential, filled with engaging activities that allowed us to practise and develop the core skills of facilitation. The highlight for the workshop was seeing how the facilitators modelled everything that we were learning and how it was working in action.

As for the multicultural summit, there were many insightful sharings and case studies being explored. It was lovely connecting with people from a myraid of different industries and sharing the commonalities of our work with multi-cultural communities.

As a dietitian working with the team on the content review of the Life! Program, the largest type 2 diabetes prevention program in Australia, I have been able to apply my learnings from the experiences to my current work in the public heath space.

The key takeaways from the facilitation workshop have informed me of facilitation strategies that we could adapt for training our workforce. Ensuring proper workforce training will translate to better engagement with the Victorian community for promoting lifestyle modifications to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

In addition, my key takeaways from the multi-cultural communications summit have helped to better inform how we can tailor the program for our identified priority populations in Victoria. The learnings from these opportunities will continuously help to shape my work as a dietitian working in public health prevention space.
