Monitoring Mental Health in diabetes: The MIND-MAP Study
Emotional health
We know that diabetes is not just a physical condition. It can influence:
- Mood
- Stress levels
- Relationships
- Motivation
- and day-to-day quality of life.
And still, emotional health is often overlooked. MIND-MAP aims to change that.
MIND-MAP is following the real-life experiences of thousands of Australians living with diabetes. Over the next three years, we’ll explore how emotional wellbeing shifts over time, what helps people cope, and which supports truly make a difference
The insights gathered will help to shape future programs, resources, clinical care, and health policies at a national level.
Participant requirements
MIND-MAP includes a large, national online survey open to adults living with any type of diabetes (excluding gestational diabetes).
Participants are asked to complete four short surveys over 36 months, making it possible to track emotional health and wellbeing in a meaningful way over a long period of time.
With a target sample of approximately 7,900 participants, this will be one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind in Australia.
Findings from the study will contribute to the development of a dedicated mental health resource hub for people living with diabetes, their families, and the health professionals who support them.
Who can get involved?
Adults living with diabetes or a family member or carer:
By joining the national group, participants will help to build a clearer picture of the emotional experiences and needs of the diabetes community. Every response helps to improve support for others now and into the future.
Emotional wellbeing is key to living well with diabetes, but it is not always measured or mentioned.
MIND-MAP gives people with diabetes a powerful way to shape the future of mental health support in Australia.
