Blood Glucose Monitor

Close Loop and Education for Hypoglycaemia Awareness Restoration – Type 1 Diabetes

Purpose

We are inviting people living with type 1 diabetes who experience reduced awareness of low blood glucose (hypoglycaemia unawareness) to take part in research.

The study is investigating whether education and/or diabetes technology can help people better recognise and respond to low blood glucose over time.

Who can take part?

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • Aged between 18 to 75 years
  • Using hybrid closed-loop (HCL) therapy or multiple daily injections (MDI)
  • Have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes for 10 years or more
  • Have an HbA1c less than 10.5%
  • Can understand and write in English (study materials are only available in the English language)

What does participation involve?

Participation in the study runs for 2 years (approximately 27-30 months) and includes:

  • Attendance of at least 20 study visits which are a mix of in-person and remote visits
  • Phone and online appointments
  • Undertake three specialised “clamp tests” at the clinical site
  • Take part in education sessions facilitated by diabetes nurse educators
