Transitioning from Dexcom G6 to G7: What you need to know

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about transitioning from the G6:

What do I need to do to upgrade from the Dexcom G6?

First, you will need to speak with an authorised diabetes health professional (such as an endocrinologist, credentialled diabetes educator, diabetes nurse practitioner, or paediatrician) to update your CGM preference on the NDSS website. General practitioners (GPs) and practice nurses are not authorised to certify CGM access update forms.

If I don’t have an authorised health professional upgrade my NDSS access before September 30 what will happen? Will I automatically be changed over to Dexcom G7 NDSS access?

No, you won’t be automatically updated to the G7. If you do not update your CGM preference through the NDSS you will not be able to obtain NDSS subsidised CGMs.

Will I need to download a new app?

Yes, you will need to download the Dexcom G7 app from you Google Play or Apple app store.

Do you need a new G7 sensor before you can download and set up the new app?

No, you can download the G7 app before you obtain a physical G7 sensor. You can use your existing Dexcom log in for the G7 app.

Will you lose all the data from the G6 when changing over to G7?

No, the G6 data will still be available via the G6 app or Dexcom Clarity. Once you start using the Dexcom G7, any new glucose data collected will be recorded in the Dexcom G7 app and will continue to be available through Dexcom Clarity.
