National Diabetes Week
National Diabetes Week exists to drive early detection, support effective management, and secure equitable access to life-changing health technologies. Crucially, it provides a dedicated moment to break down the misconceptions surrounding diabetes. Every year, Diabetes Victoria works to eliminate diabetes stigma and develop a genuine understanding and gather community support.
The way we talk about diabetes matters. When we look back at the campaigns through the years, we don’t just see a timeline of events, we see an evolution in our messaging.
Historically, public health campaigns often leaned on fear based messaging. Today, our approach has shifted. We have embraced person-centered language that separates the individual from the condition, actively working to dismantle the stigma that too many people living with diabetes face.
