AI to predict kidney disease in type 2 diabetes

Deakin University is inviting adults with type 2 diabetes to take part in a survey exploring how people feel about using artificial intelligence (AI) to predict or screen for diabetes-related kidney disease. Your insights will help shape how AI-generated health information is used and communicated in diabetes care.

Aim of the Study

This study, being conducted by Deakin University aims to understand how people living with type 2 diabetes feel about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in predicting and screening for diabetes-related kidney disease (DRKD).

DRKD is a serious complication and a leading cause of kidney failure. While AI has the potential to improve early detection or prediction, little is known about how patients perceive and trust its use, or how they prefer AI-generated health risk information to be communicated.

Who can participate in this study?

Participants must be adults aged 18 years or older and meet the following criteria:

  • Have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
  • Be able to read and understand English
  • Have access to the internet and be able to complete an online survey

What Participants Can Expect

Participants will complete an anonymous online survey, taking approximately 20 – 30 minutes. The survey includes a combination of rating-scale and open-ended questions. Participants may skip any questions or withdraw at any time.

How will this survey help people living with diabetes?

Findings will help researchers and healthcare providers better understand patient perspectives and guide how AI-based risk information is communicated in diabetes care.
