Simplicity that inspires
In a world often led with difficult dishes and Insta-worthy images, Sunshine Coast author and food entrepreneur, Kim McCosker has carved out her own special niche. Simplicity.
Her latest accomplishment, a prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award, often named the ‘Culinary Oscars’ recognises 4 Ingredients MORE Diabetes, a simple cookbook that’s transforming kitchens and lives!
Behind the shiny pages and mouth-watering recipes is a deeper story. A story of partnership, purpose, and public health. The collaboration between 4 Ingredients and Diabetes Victoria, is a relationship that’s proving how food can be simple, delicious and a tool for better health.
A Cookbook with a Cause
4 Ingredients MORE Diabetes is the follow-up to the original 4 Ingredients Diabetes cookbook. It builds on the same winning formula, no more than four ingredients per recipe, little fuss with lots of flavour.
What sets this book apart is its clinical credibility. Every recipe has been reviewed by expert dietitians at Diabetes Victoria. This ensures that the meals are not only tasty but nutritionally sound for people living with diabetes.
The cookbook features over 80 new recipes. From cottage pie to Fruit Cake, they are all designed to make healthy eating accessible, affordable, and enjoyable.
It’s a simple saviour for individuals and families navigating the complexities of diabetes management.
“Needing to count carbs and dose my insulin for every single one that I eat, it’s important to know what’s on my plate. This book gives me the nutritional information I need and outlines the importance of a ‘healthy plate’. That means I can cook, serve and eat without the overwhelm.” – Jo, T1D 7 years.
A Partnership with a Purpose
The collaboration between 4 Ingredients and Diabetes Victoria is more than a branding exercise, it’s a shared mission.
“We’re both committed to empowering people with diabetes to live well,” says Jane Robinson, Diabetes Education Program Manager. “This cookbook is a practical tool that supports that goal in everyday life.”
For Kim, the partnership is deeply personal. “The reason I really wanted to write a simple book for diabetes is because it’s near and dear to my heart. Back in 1980, my little brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 2. Literally overnight our lives changed. Poor mum didn’t have the time or the budget to be cooking all the extra meals, so we all sat, we all ate the same thing. That’s why I wanted to make something that was such a challenge at that time for our family simple for others.”
Recognition and Reach
This collaboration has led to a recipe book that’s not only flying off shelves but making a difference in the lives of people around the world! It has received glowing reviews from people with diabetes and their families, many of whom say it’s helped them rediscover the joy of cooking and eating without fear or confusion.
The Gourmand Award is just the latest in a string of accolades for Kim and her team. The 4 Ingredients brand has long been celebrated for its innovation and accessibility, with previous titles topping bestseller lists and being translated into multiple languages.
The book has been featured in national and international media, praised by health professionals, and embraced by community groups across Australia.
Social media has also played a key role in spreading the word. The 4 Ingredients Instagram and Facebook pages are filled with user-generated content, photos of meals, testimonials, and tips that reflect a growing community of people who are cooking with confidence.
More than a Meal
The success of 4 Ingredients MORE Diabetes is a testament to what can happen when cooking creativity meets clinical expertise. It’s also a reminder that health doesn’t have to be hard. Sometimes, the simplest recipes are the most powerful.
For the Diabetes Victoria team, the partnership is part of a broader strategy to support people living with diabetes through education, advocacy, and practical tools.
A Delicious Future
As rates of diabetes continue to rise, initiatives like 4 Ingredients MORE Diabetes offer a hopeful path forward. They show that with the right support, healthy eating can be joyful, sustainable, and deeply satisfying.
In a world that often overcomplicates food, this partnership is a powerful reminder that sometimes, less really is more.
