Type 1 Tech Night

The world of diabetes technology is moving at lightning speed. Navigating the options, the subsidies, and the sheer volume of information can feel overwhelming. The event aimed to provide clarity and community support to help people feel confident when it comes to diabetes tech.

The event was free for all Diabetes Victoria members.

Designed to be hands-on and interactive, a trade show style exhibition featured four major diabetes tech companies: Abbott, MiniMed, Omnipod, and Ypsomed.

Presentations from diabetes educators and a lived experience panel were an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, gain insights, and connect.

Finding the right fit

Dr. Ashley Ng shared her experience as someone who was at first reluctant to use more advanced diabetes tech.

“I was comfortable with my insulin pump, but I didn’t feel ready to switch to a closed-loop system for many years – despite advice from my health professional team,” Dr Ng says.

“I was nervous to let something else drive the technology that I was so used to managing manually. Another barrier was having to carry around a second device and learn a new system and its terminology.

“It was certainly challenging at first, but I have found the right closed-loop system for me and now the algorithm puts my mind at ease around my glucose management.

“Sometimes the newest tech isn’t always the best for you personally. Clinical support is vital to finding the right fit – work with your endo or a diabetes nurse educator to find the right system for you.”

Thank you to our sponsors and exhibitors for making this event possible: mylife Diabetescare, MiniMed, Carer Gateway, Abbott, Omnipod, Breakthrough T1D Australia and Type 1 Screen.
