My journey with diabetes

Joan Nolan decided to share a little of her story, in the hope it may help others who are living with diabetes, or considering how they might support the causes that matter most to them. Here, Joan reads her letter to us. Watch her video below and read along as she shares her story.

Joan's letter

My name is Joan Nolan.

I am 81 years old,
and I live with my Golden Retriever dog, Martha.

I had a rough start after my diagnosis about 20 years ago.

I was given very little information and no training with testing, etc.

I struggled for about 6 weeks before I called Diabetes Victoria and spoke to a
very helpful woman who set me on the right track, and I have found everything much easier since then.

I found once I had the correct information, life became much
easier while planning meals, arranging medication and coping with the very occasional 'hypo.'

I encourage all my friends considering making a will to think
of making a donation to charity.

Diabetes Victoria is one of the charities I would encourage them to consider.
