Media Releases - 9 October 2022
Diabetes Victoria CEO, Mr Craig Bennett said, “Each year our organisation receives wonderful support from the community as part of our Christmas and research appeals. For our most recent appeal, we were thrilled to raise just over $112,000 after accounting for our direct costs. These funds will be used to further support research, as well as our programs, courses and resources.”
“I’d like to thank the more than 3,800 Victorians who were so generous in supporting this appeal – even during these tough COVID-19 times.
“As always, we will continue to report on the impact of our work as we strive to improve the lives of Victorians affected by, or at risk of, diabetes.” said Mr Bennett.
Diabetes is now the fastest growing chronic condition in Victoria, whereby many families and people are impacted daily in managing this 24/7 condition.
According to the latest National Diabetes Services Scheme figures, more than 32,000 Victorians developed diabetes in 2021, with more than 366,000 now living with the condition in the state.
Moreover, we estimate that 125,000 Victorians live with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes.
Mr Bennett said, “Every dollar directed towards diabetes research is critical, as we search for that vital key to the next development or breakthrough.”
