Diabetes Victoria Celebrates Women in Research and Care
We believe that when we give by empowering women’s voices, and funding dedicated research, the entire diabetes community gains through better health outcomes, diverse perspectives, and accelerated innovation.
At Diabetes Victoria, supporting women is not just for one day, it is an ongoing belief.
“Today, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible women who are the backbone of our organisation, delivering world-class diabetes education and support, clinical services and breakthroughs in research” says Glen Noonan, Diabetes Victoria CEO.
Researchers Gaining New Grounds
The pathway to a cure is paved by researchers. Women have historically been underrepresented in STEM leadership roles, but we are committed to showcasing how that is changing.
Through the Diabetes Innovation Impact Foundation (DIIF), our partnership with leading research institutes, including Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes (ACBRD) and Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations (ACADI), we are supporting female lead investigators who are tackling some of the most complex challenges in diabetes.
These women are reshaping how we understand, manage and eventually cure diabetes. By giving these researchers the platforms and funding they need, the global diabetes community gain insights that benefit everyone.
In Victoria, we continue to prioritise research and opportunities that empower local female scientists.
We recognise that supporting a diverse research workforce ensures that we are asking the right questions, especially concerning issues that disproportionately affect women, such as gestational diabetes and changes of management associated with menopause.
Investing in female researchers means we gain a stronger, more balanced, scientific future.
The Clinicians Guiding Our Community
While researchers work on breakthroughs for our future, our female healthcare professionals at Diabetes Care Plus transform the lives of people living with or at risk of diabetes daily.
The Diabetes Care Plus team are predominantly women, and their impact is profound.
The dedicated, motivated health care professionals provide more than just clinical advice. They offer empathy, education, and empowerment.
They help individuals, families and groups of people, to navigate often invisible, challenges of living with this chronic condition.
Our Ongoing Commitment
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we encourage our entire community to embrace the #GiveToGain message.
At Diabetes Victoria, we remain committed to giving space, funding, and visibility to women in research and healthcare.
We know that by doing so, we all gain a healthier, fairer, and more equitable future. A future where diabetes can do no harm.
